 A summer to celebrate

Plans are now finally taking shape for the school’s 100 year anniversary celebrations in early June. On Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June we will be holding special assemblies to showcase the children’ s learning about the last 100 years at Prince Rock and across the world. On those 2 days we will also be hosting tours of the building for past pupils, parents and staff to look at an exhibition of school memorabilia and take a look at how the building has changed and developed over time.

On Monday 9th June we will be holding a special lunchtime ‘street style’ themed party event with food from the last 100 years. This will be followed by a fun packed afternoon of activities including things such as a bouncy castle, a bowling alley, maypole dancing, Punch and Judy etc. Watch this space for more details.

The new adventure play trail plans are go!

The structural engineers have been to visit and their initial survey results have indicated that one or our planned infant playground projects can proceed immediately and one will need to wait for further investigations. The brilliant news is that while we will have to wait a little longer to build our canopy over Reception’s outside area, the adventure play trail can be built right away and building will begin this Friday. Hopefully if all goes to plan the new adventure play trail will be up and running by the time the children return to school on Tuesday 22nd April.

More baby news

After the birth of 4 children so far since the start of January, the staff of Prince Rock Primary School are continuing their quest to create a 5 a side football team in time for the summer holidays. The next recruit for the squad will soon be provided by Mrs Grenney whose bump is currently developing nicely. Congratulations!!!

The end of the East End support!!

After 3 amazing years of support the East End pot finally runs out today. This means that after half term breakfast and after school club will no longer be free and there will be no free fruit for the juniors at break time. We will of course be allowing the children to bring in a snack for break but we would like this to be healthy. We appreciate all the support you can give us and the children in encouraging them to eat as healthily as possible.

Building Learning Power

So what’s the 3rd of the 4 T’s??

So far we’ve told you all about ‘Trying’ and ‘Together’. This month it’s the turn of our third learning power, ‘Tools’. So what do we mean by tools?

Tools are the skills we need to use to learn in different ways. Some of these tools are inside us. For example, children (and adults) who are good learners are curious people. They like to ask questions about things and figure out how they work. When you are coming up with your own idea in design technology you will need to be creative and imaginative – other learning tools. Or, instead of being imaginative, you might need to work things out logically and in a sensible order. This might be when the children are learning how to use grid multiplication. Other tools will be around us like dictionaries or number lines. We ask the children to use different learning tools every day and they can become better at all of them.
