19 Sep 2004 - Newsletter Issue 1

Welcome!

Welcome to the first newsletter of the new school year. I hope you all had a great summer and your children are all settling well in their new classes.

If you are returning to us after the summer break you may have noticed some changes. Our new outside classroom/quiet seated area is nearly finished and it is looking great. Miss Prothero?s Foundation classroom has also been refurbished along with the junior boys' cloakroom/toilets.

We've also welcomed some new staff to Prince Rock. Miss Evans is teaching Year 2, Miss Atwell is teaching music to all the children on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mr Issitt is teaching Year 6 on Wednesdays. Mrs Minter is working as a teaching assistant in Foundation and Miss Simpson is working as a teaching assistant in a range of classes. I hope you will join me in making then all feel welcome at Prince Rock.

Finally there's the Newsletter itself. It will continue to come out monthly and still contain the usual news and dates, however, as you will see in this issue, it will be expanded to include something much more important -children's work. This month's work is from Year 5.

I hope you all enjoy it and that you all have a great term.

School Uniform: This Thursday 23rd September we will be displaying all our old lost property in the downstairs hall from 2.30 to 4.00 pm. The children will get a chance in school time to see if they recognise any lost items, and parents are free to look from 3.15 until 4.00 pm. Next week we will be starting a new/nearly new uniform shop on Monday 27th from 3.15 to 3.45. This will be staffed by Mrs Jobe and Mrs Whitney and you will be able to buy both new and quality nearly new/old uniform. All proceeds will go towards school funds. If you have any quality old uniform to donate, please ensure it is clean and hand it in to the school office.

Recycling: We have aluminium can recycling boxes in school so if you want to bring your old cans to crush and recycle, we'll be happy to do it for you. Please bring any old cans into school to Mr Horne, the Caretaker.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clubs: This term we are running a fantastic selection of clubs at both lunchtime and after school. You should have received details last week, but if you didn't get a letter or you've lost it, please ask in the Office for another one. Most clubs begin during the week of the 27th September.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breakfast and After-School Club: Both of these are currently full, but if you'd like to go on our waiting lists see Miss Cumbes or Miss James.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Telephone Numbers: Please let the school know if you change your phone number or emergency contact details by filling in the slip in this Newsletter and handing it in to your child's teacher. We had a number of incidents last term where we struggled to contact people in emergencies because numbers had changed

Parent Survival Clubs: These will be held on 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th November, 1.00 - 2.30 pm, at 33a Cattedown Road. To book a place please call the Behaviour Support Team on 01752 362777.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Health and Hygiene: There have been several reported cases of headlice in school. Please check your child?s head tonight and at least once a week after that. If any lice are found you will need to use a fine-toothed nit comb and/or a suitable head lice lotion.
