Wrist bands and scoobies

I'm sure you are all well aware of the emergence of a whole host of wrist bands that are now available supporting a range of good causes. In fact a number of the school staff are wearing them on their arms too. However, they are unfortunately starting to cause us a few problems. They are being broken, lost, used inappropriately, swapped and some children are coming to school with up to 5 or 6 on their wrist. I?m not proposing to ban them. However, we will treat them as we treat watches. They will need to come off for any P.E. activities. We will also take them away from children playing with them or using them in a dangerous way. In addition we will not take responsibility for any loss or damage to them.

My advice is to leave them at home.

The current craze for scoobies is also causing us problems. Although there are clear educational benefits in weaving them together they are basically a toy. As with any toy brought into school, teachers are spending too much time dealing with them being lost, swapped or played with when the children should be doing their school work. Please leave them at home and let the children play with them after school.

Staffing news

We have appointed Mr. Robin Cooper to the teaching staff here at Prince Rock as a replacement for Mr. Clooke who is leaving us in July. Mr. Cooper currently teaches at Hyde Park Infants and we will be joining us in September.

After half term we will let you know which teachers will be taking which classes from September.

Following the resignation of Mrs Clare Bowden Plymouth City Council's catering department have appointed Mrs Ruth Rickard to be our new school cook. Mrs Rickard has been working in the canteen at Southway Primary school and we hope you will join us in welcoming her to Prince Rock. We have enclosed some information on school dinner menus on the flyer enclosed in this newsletter.
Parent Governor vacancy
We still have a vacancy for a parent governor to join the team of people that run the school. If you would like further details on what's involved then please see Mr. Spry or one of our 2 current parent governors, Paula Luscombe or Julie Richardson.

Can you help with reading at school?

Following last terms successful parents afternoon about how we teach reading here at school, a number of you have very kindly offered to come into school and listen to children read, or even read to groups or classes!
Thank you! If you would like to help, please jot down your name,
child's class, the week day and approximate time you could
help. Please pass this on to Mr Wallace via the school office
if you wish. Thank you for your continued help and support.

Fruit snacks at break time

The numbers of children choosing to eat our free fruit at
break time continues to rise. We now have 62% making a regular healthy
snack choice which is up from 51%, 3 months ago. Let?s see if we can get the figure up to 75% by the end of the year. You know it makes sense!!!

Term dates and holidays
Next years term dates are listed on the enclosed flyer. Please try to book any holidays within the official school holiday period.

Parent Survey

The results of the parent survey you kindly completed before Easter are listed below. We had our biggest ever return with 110 responses form our 140 families. This means that over ¾ (76%) of you returned your forms, which is up from 57% last year. Thank you. Last years figures are in brackets. We have already taken note of one of your concerns about after school clubs being mainly for the oldest children so this term football is being run for years 3 and 4, rather than years 5 and 6. We really do listen to what you say!
