Come and join us in school!
Over the next few weeks there are a range of opportunities for you to come in and see what is happening with your child in school.
Parent / teacher meetings
Next Monday 17th and Wednesday 19th October you are welcome to come in to school to meet your child?s new teacher and discuss how they have settled in to class. By the time you read this newsletter, a separate note should have reached you, and lists offering meeting times should have already been posted outside your child?s classroom. Please sign up for these meetings as they are a great opportunity to find out how things are going so far.
Open afternoons
Last term Mr. Wallace held a very successful ?open afternoon? for parents where he demonstrated the ways in which we teach reading in the school and some of the resources we use. After ½ term we will doing the same for I.C.T. (computers). Mr. Cooper and Miss Higman will be on hand to demonstrate some of the new and exciting resources we have, both in classrooms and the computer suite, and how we use these to develop your children?s learning. This meeting will take place during the first couple of weeks after the half term holiday. Watch this space??.
Friends group
The friends of Prince Rock group haven?t met for a while but they are hoping to hold a meeting for new and old members alike next Tuesday 18th October at 3.00pm in the staff room. Over the last couple of years the friends group have raised lots of money for the
school and had great fun arranging discos, raffles and a summer games afternoon / fete. It would be great if we could sort out a disco for the children for this Christmas so please see Mrs Hillibrandt or Mrs Brennand in the playground or just come along next week and see what you can do to
help.

Blagdons Meadow Visit
A number of our classes have been working with Devon Wildlife Trust at Blagdons meadow during the last few weeks. The children have had a great time and learnt lots of things about their environment. Here are some photos of year 5 in action.
Here are some three short poems written by the children of year 3 following a recent visit to the meadow.
We all went to the meadow to see what animals eat.
The sparrow hawk had a blue tit for its meat.

We went to the meadow and the grass was green.
We went together as a team.

We went to the river Plym and saw birds up high.
What I mean by high is they were way up in the sky.

Thanks for returning the sheets which contain the information we hold about addresses, medication, phone numbers etc. Please, please keep us up to date with any changes, especially mobile phone numbers and medicines.
Netball
Our first school netball match in league was a great success for Prince Rock. In a difficult game against Salisbury Road we managed to win 7- 4. We won our second match 9-2 against Highfield. A big well done to the team; Rhian , Jordan , Ayesha, Nicole, Dale and Danielle.
Athletics
On Monday 10th October Prince Rock Primary School?s athletics team came a very close second in the Lipson Schools Athletics tournament. The team of Rhian, Jordan, Dale, Tanith, Hydary, Jamie, Aziz, Kayleigh, Hayley, Leahonna, Leontine and Kyle are now through to the city finals which will be taking place after half term.
Infant doors
Could we please remind parents of our infant children to make sure you let all the children come in first in the mornings to avoid the corridor areas becoming jammed.

Fish Tank
If you have a fish tank with all the accessories that you no longer use and would
like to see it go to a good home could you please let the school office know. The Year 6 children would like to set one up in the upstairs corridor.

Although most of our clubs are full there are still spaces in the following:
Tuesday 3.30 ? 4.30 Art, Year 4 and Year 5 with Mr Issitt,
Computer club, Year 5 and Year 6 with Mr Cooper
Puzzles club Year 2 and Year 3 with Miss Cowan.
Thursday lunchtime Science experiment club Year 5 and Year 6 with Mrs Frost. See Mrs Smith for a consent form.
Tesco sport vouchers
We have started collecting the Tesco sport vouchers. Please pass them in to the school office or your child?s class teacher if you have any. Thank you. More details on the enclosed leaflet.
Nestle Box Tops Tokens
We have started collecting the Nestle Box Tops. Please pass them in to the school office or your child?s class teacher.

We are updating our records. If there are any parents who would like to go onto our relief Meal Time Assistants list, (this is if another MTA is sick). Could you please pass your details to the school office. A Criminal Records Bureau check will be made once you have passed on your details.

WE ARE STILL GETTING PARENTS PARKING IN THE
SCHOOL CAR PARK. THE CAR PARK IS FOR STAFF ONLY AND SHOULD NOT BE USED BY PARENTS TO COLLECT THEIR CHILDREN.
Mr Horne our Caretaker is once again collecting food to send to Eastern Europe. Please only send the following: Sugar, Plain Flour, Tined Fruit 500grms, Long
grain rice, biscuits (NOT CHOCOLATE), dried spaghetti, tined tomatoes. Please send to the school office by Friday 21st October and Mr Horne will do the rest.
