23 Jan 2006 - Prince Rock Primary School
Happy New Year
I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and that your children are all settling back smoothly into a new year. Christmas now seems like a distant memory as we get stuck in to another busy new term here at Prince Rock. Year R are off to the Theatre next week, Years 1 and 2 will soon be working with some professional dance instructors and Years 3 and 4 will be swimming every day for 3 weeks. Year 5 will spend a week making 'Sonic Postcards' and Year 6 will be continuing their work with the DARE project and doing various activities with Plymouth Youth Afloat. Details of these opportunities will be sent to you in the coming weeks but all these activities are in addition to the children's normal school work!!
There are also 2 major opportunities for you to come in to school to support your children's learning. In a couple of week's time we will be hosting 2 afternoons / evenings of parent teacher meetings and class assemblies will be re commencing. (see else where in this newsletter for details) You are very welcome to join us and we look forward to working with you in 2006.

Parent teacher meetings
These will be taking place between 3.45pm and 5.00pm on Monday 23rd and between 4.30pm and 7.00pm on Wednesday 25th January. Notices offering individual appointment times will be posted on the door of your child's class from 3.30pm on Monday 16th January.
Maths and EnglishTargets
By the time you read this newsletter you should have received a letter from Mr. Wallace and a sheet of paper from your class teacher outlining your child's targets for this term in reading, writing and maths. Please talk to your child about these targets and discuss them with your child's teacher at the forthcoming parent teacher meetings.
Personal belongings
Since Christmas we have noticed an increase in the amount of jewellery being worn to school. Please leave ear rings, necklaces and bracelets at home. We have also found children with I pods and mobiles in school too. These will end up being lost or damaged so please make sure your children leave them at home.
Class assemblies are back
These will take place in the upper hall from 9.15am and we look forward to seeing you there.

Christmas News
For those of you who didn't manage to get to our 3 fantastic Christmas performances, here's a reminder of the news we celebrated at each of the 3 shows. Firstly we congratulated Miss Attwell on the news that she is expecting a baby in June. Secondly we celebrated Mrs Frost's silver jubilee with some of the former staff who have shared in Mrs Frosts first 25 years at Prince Rock. Last but not least we said farewell to Mrs Barbara Woods, an unsung hero of the school who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes as a governor of Prince Rock for the last 8 years. We say a big thank you and we look forward to seeing you again one day.
Tesco sports vouchers
Thank you for all your help in collecting the Tesco sports vouchers. We collected a staggering 5000 and we have used them to buy variour netball, athletic and games equipment.
Thank you.
Remember we are still collecting the Nestle -Box tops for books- tokens on the tops of cereal packets.
SATS Tests
Please note that this years SATS tests will be in the week commencing Monday 8th May. We would be grateful if you would ensure that you do not book holidays for this week as we will not be able to give permission for holidays during SATS week.
