6 Feb 2006 - Prince Rock beats the sickness bug
After a very difficult couple of weeks of staff and pupil illness we have almost beaten the sickness bug in school and we are just about returning to normal. At one stage last Friday we had less than a hundred children in school and only just over ½ of our staff. We had to close our breakfast and after school club for 2 days and a couple of our clubs were cancelled but we just managed to keep the school open. A big thank you to all the parents who worked with us and made sure the children were fully recovered before sending them back to us and also all the staff who managed to keep the school open. Thanks.
Welcome to our three new school governors
We are very pleased to be able to inform you that we are welcoming three new faces to the governing body here at Prince Rock. As announced in a letter earlier this term, Mrs Pollard, mum of Dylan in year 2, has become a parent governor. Our other new parent governor position has been taken by Miss Miller, mum of Caoimhe in year 1 and Gerard in year 4. We are also welcoming Sue Rouse as a community governor. Sue works for the East End Healthy Living network, a huge financial supporter of our work in school, and she is also a local resident. Welcome to the Prince Rock team.

Morwellham Quay and swimming.
On Monday 16th January our year 5?s and 6?s visited Morwellham Quay as part of their History work. They had a fantastic time and learnt a great deal. The results of some of their follow up school work can be found elsewhere in this newsletter.
For the last 3 weeks our year 3 and 4 children have been swimming every day at Seaton pool. For those children who have managed to avoid illness the progress they have made has been fantastic, as has their behaviour. Well done

Boys - On Tuesday 17th January our boys football team took part in a 5 a side
tournament at the Mayflower centre. The team were Dale, Jamie, Jordan , Gerard, Jack , Kyle and Aziz. The team played 5 games
winning 2, losing 2 and drawing 1. They came 3rd overall and were a real credit to the school. Well done.
Girls - On Monday 30th January our girls football team played 2 matches against
Yealmpstone Farm and Chaddlewood Juniors. In 1 low scoring game they lost 1 -0 but then they lost 8 - 7 in an amazing game of football. At one stage Ria scored a hat trick to give us a 3 - 0 lead. They were really, really unlucky to lose both games.
Theatre visits
On Friday 20th January some of our reception children enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at the Theatre Royal watching Jack and the Beanstalk.
Earlier this week our year 4 and 5 children went to the Pavilions to watch various children?s art performances and to round off the half term our year 1 and 2 children are off to the Barbican Theatre this Friday to perform some of their dance work . Good luck Year 1 & 2.
Half term
This Friday 17th February we will close at 3.30pm for half term and reopen for school at 8.50am on Monday 27th February. Breakfast and after school club will open and close as normal.
HELP!
ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND OR NATIONAL WESTMINSTER!
We are hoping to apply for a grant to improve our playground. The grant is
available from the Royal Bank Scotland, who are running a ?super grounds? scheme. The only trouble is that the grant application must be nominated by a Royal Bank of Scotland or National Westminster employee connected with the school community.
If you are or if you are aware of any Royal Bank of Scotland or National Westminster employees who would be willing to sign an application from to help us, please contact the school office, (257698), as soon as possible - the closing date for the application is 3rd March. Thank you for your help.
Jim Wallace, Deputy Headteacher.
PE KIT
We are trying to build a stock of spare pe kit to lend to children for the odd occasion when children forget their kit. If you have any old, spare or unwanted pe kit or plimsolls could you please send it to Mrs Smith in the school office.
SPANISH
Those of you with children in year 4, year 6 or our Spanish club may have got used to your children coming home talking to you in Spanish every week. Miss Cowan thought she would share some of the work she has been doing with her classes. The pronunciations are in brackets. Enjoy!!
