10 Mar 2006 - Prince Rock Primary School Newsletter

TIME TO HAVE YOUR SAY
It's that time of year when we start thinking about our 2006 / 2007 plans to continue to improve Prince Rock Primary School for the children and we'd like your views on how well you think we are doing. Inside this edition of the newsletter you should find a copy of this year's parent survey. Please take a couple of minutes to fill it in. As it mentions in the introduction at the top of the survey, during the last couple of years things such as a lack of lunch time / after school clubs, home school liaison and class assemblies have all come up as issues and as a result we have tried to improve provision in these areas of our work. Please fill in the answers on the grid and write any other thoughts you have on the back of the sheets. Your views really do matter to us.

School council fun day Thursday 6th April 2006

On Thursday 6th April we will be holding a fun day to raise money for our 2 chosen charities, C.L.I.C. and Guide Dogs for the Blind. Each class is arranging their own events and they will be advertising their ideas in the next week or two. We hope you can help us to have a great day and raise some money at the same time.

The school council

The boys played 5 matches winning 2 and losing 3. They came 3rd. The children's behaviour during the day was excellent.

Visitors
Every week various people come to our school to talk to or work with the children. This year we have been asking them to comment on their visit in our school visitors book which we keep at reception. We have been reading out some of the comments we've received in our school assemblies and also sharing them with staff and governors. We thought you might like to see some of them too.

Fun run on the Hoe - Sunday 28th May 2006
This year we are planning to enter the fun run on the Hoe.
Miss Evans will be organising our school's participation in the event and will be writing to you with further details.

A new school P.E. storage shed
You may have noticed some minor building activity in the corner of our junior
playground. We are putting a new shed there to store some of our outdoor PE and lunchtime equipment. It should be up and running by the end of the Easter holidays.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER
This year's school photograph day is on Thursday 27th April. If you would like pre-school children to have their photos taken with their siblings could you please bring them to the area outside the gym at 9.00am.

PE KIT
We are still building up our stock of spare PE kit to lend to children for the odd occasion when children forget their kit. If you have any old, spare or unwanted PE kit or plimsolls could you please send it to Mrs Smith in the school office. Thanks to those of you who?ve already helped.

Every lesson counts

Printed in the table below are the school's attendance figures for the last 4 weeks of this half term. As you can see they vary from class to class and from week to week. While we understand that children are ill from time to time, and sometimes there are good reasons to take a holiday during term time, we believe that every lesson counts and the more time your child spends in school the more they will learn. We are currently trialling 2 new initiatives in school to help to improve our attendance. Firstly, we are rewarding the class with the best weekly attendance score with extra Friday class 'golden time'. Secondly, although most of you let us know when your child is sick, we don't always hear. So from next Monday we are going to phone home to check on any child that isn't in school, who we've not heard about by 10.00 am.

Sonic Postcards
Last week our year 5 children undertook a project called Sonic Postcards. This is what two children had to say about their experience. Hydary from Year 5 said ? We used a program called Audacity on the computers to mix the sounds and create our own postcard. If you would like to see and hear our sonic postcards go to. www.sonicpostcards.org
Aziz from Year 5 said "When we started the project we learnt how to operate a digital camera and an i-River". (An i-River is like an ipod but you can use a microphone to record on to it). "We had a great week, we learnt a lot and it was good fun too".
