20 Apr 2006 - News Letter

What a fantastic fun day we had!!

As we are sure you are all well aware, just
before the Easter holiday we held a fun day to raise money for our 2 chosen
charities, C.L.I.C. and Guide Dogs
for the Blind. Each class arranged
their own events and we had a
great day as well as raising
nearly £250 at the same
time! The best bit was
soaking the teachers
as you can see from
the pictures that
appeared in the
Evening Herald
during Easter.
Thank you
for your
support.

The school council
Lunchtime good behaviour awards
We have recently been offered some free bowling passes from a local Mega bowl. We have decided to use them to reward exceptionally good behaviour at lunchtime. Currently children who behave well at lunchtime get a small certificate which is pinned on a notice board opposite
the staffroom. From now on all
the children on this board will
be entered into a monthly draw
to receive any free passes we are
given.

BBC in with year 6
In the week beginning Monday 15th May our Year 6 children will begin a 2 week project where they will make their own TV documentary with the help of a local BBC journalist. It?s being organised in conjunction with TR2 and it will be shown as part of this years obstacle race. It promises to be great fun and a fantastic experience for the children.

Inside this edition

Inside this edition of the newsletter you will hopefully find a sheet of paper with all the dates for the next school year. All the holiday dates are listed as well as the days when we are proposing to close the school for teacher training. We hope you find this useful. There is also an advert for a local Brownie group on the back.

Staffing news - Miss Atwell
Miss Atwell is now officially on maternity leave and resting before the arrival of her baby. We all wish her well. From Monday 8th May some of Miss Atwells music teaching at the school will be taken over by Miss Emma Lewin who has been teaching keyboards to year 4 during this year.
There will be some additional changes to the timetables in some classes as
a result of Miss Atwells maternity but your children will soon get used to
these and their class teachers will inform you directly if anything like
a PE day alters.

Fun run on the Hoe ? Sunday 28th May 2006
This year we are planning to
Enter the fun run on the Hoe.
Miss Evans is organising our
school?s participation in the
event and there is still time to
apply. See Mrs Smith for a form.

Sainsburys and Tesco vouchers

We are still collecting the Sainsburys sports vouchers and the Tesco computer vouchers. Please keep sending them in with your children or bring them in to reception.

Fruit and breaktime snacks
We would like to remind all parents that the school provides all children with a free daily fruit or vegetable snack. You may of course also choose to provide an additional or alternative snack. However we would encourage this to be a healthy snack such as fresh or dried fruit, crackers or something else like cheese, rather than less healthy options such as crisps or cakes

Year 6 in the news again
Those of you who looked at the glossy leaflet that came through the post with your council tax recently may have noticed some of our year 6?s pictured at Astor Park. They were also featured on the front cover and inside the council?s recent housing magazine ?What?s Up?. They were all involved in writing a brilliant 4 page article on local housing issues. We have included a free copy for you ? enjoy!
