14 Mar 2007 - Prince Rock Primary School
A summer of fun and learning!I'd like to start this newsletter by wishing you all a very Happy Easter. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for a dry and sunny holiday fortnight.
When we return for the summer term there will be a whole range of things happening and these are listed inside in a special 2 page diary pull out. As usual we will be holding things like sports day, the infants trip to Wembury beach, the year 6 leavers service and the Saltram picnic. We also have the school photographer in and the life Education caravan visiting. However we also have additional events planned including a visit from a planetarium, coaches from
Plymouth Argyle Football Club, the opening of our new playground facilities and a fun day with Devon Wildlife Trust at Blagdon's Meadow. Last but not least we are planning to add even more silverware to our trophy cabinet in the rugby, cricket and athletics competitions. We'll also be doing lots and lots of learning too!
School closure dates
Although these are included in the diary pages I would like to make you aware of 3 days coming up when the school will be closed to children.
Monday 16th April - School staff training day
Thursday 3rd May - The school is being used as a polling station

Playground News
Working in conjunction with Creative Partnerships our school council have chosen an architect who is currently working with some of our classes to improve our school playground. On Friday (tomorrow) morning, the architect, Bran from Creative Partnerships and representatives from the school council will be explaining their initial ideas to the rest of the children and the staff in a special assembly at 11.45 in the top hall. You are all very welcome to join us.

House Teams
Outside your child's classroom there is a list to tell you which colour house team your child is in. All siblings will be in the same colour. The children will be in the same colour throughout their time at Prince Rock. We now have a small stock of PE T-shirts in these colours in the uniform shop. If you would like to purchase or order a T-shirt for sports day could you please do so now, so that we have time for them to arrive. The cost of the T-shirts are £4.50 each. If you are buying a PE T-shirt from somewhere else could you please try to buy the relevant colour. The T-shirts will be on display on the boards outside the Gym.
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER
This year?s school photograph day is on Thursday 19th April. If you would like Pre school children to have their photos taken with their siblings could you please bring them to the area outside the gym at 8.30am. The children will have photographs taken throughout the day these will include siblings in school, individual photographs, class photographs and team photographs. You will be under no obligation to buy these photographs. Could you please try to make sure that your children are wearing school uniform, if you want your child to comb their own hair they must bring their own brush/comb on the understanding that staff will not be tidying up their hair for them and they are not to use other children?s brushes/combs.
Dogs in the Playground
Although most of the children and staff like dogs, they are not allowed in the playground for Hygiene reasons. Please do not bring them into school not even the cute, cuddly, puppy type.
NO SMOKING
Could you please remember that Prince Rock Primary School has a NO SMOKING POLICY. This includes not only inside the school building but also the whole of the school playground.
Parent Governor Vacancy
We still have a vacancy for a parent governor. If you have any interest in this vital role in the future development of the school please see Mr. Spry for more details.
Mobile Phones
If you have an old mobile phone that you no longer want, the East End Community
Families First are recycling them to help raise money for the allotment. Please
send them into school, we will send them on for you.
Free School Meals
Just a quick reminder that if your children are entitled to free school meals could you please complete a form available from Mrs Smith in the office, even if your child only ever has a packed lunch. The more children who register for free school meals the more the school will benefit.
SCHOOL DINNER MONEY
We have had a number of parents sending school dinner money to
school late. Could I please remind you that dinner money has to be in school on the first school day of the week, for every day that your child is staying for a meal during that week. Securicor collects all of the money on that day. We cannot give a child a school meal if it has not been paid for.
The cost of a school meal is £1.45 per day.
