The good news about our playground!1
In a previous newsletter we told you a little bit about a fantastic project our children have been jointly working on with an organisation called !Creative Partnerships!, to develop an area of the school grounds between the end of the building and Laira Bridge Road. Various classes have been working with architects and engineers and the resultant building work begins this Friday 29th June. Further classes will be working on completing the project during the next 2 weeks and there will be some unavoidable disruption to the area. Please bear with us. The school entrance by the footbridge will be closed and there will no entrance to and from school this way. Please use the other entrance on Laira Bridge Road. Next week our children will also be completing the junior playground mural with our parent artist, Michelle Dickinson. Fingers crossed for lots of sun.
And the not so
good news......
We have suffered some mindless vandalism to one of our most popular pieces of playground furniture. One of the benches in the corner of our quiet area was ripped out of the ground and smashed to pieces last weekend before being dumped on Laira Bridge Road. Please keep your eyes peeled for intruders in the playground and let the police know if you see anyone causing damage. Vandalism has not been a Prince Rock Primary School issue and we really don't want it to start now. Please help us to make sure it doesn't become a problem.
S. Spry - Headteacher
-----------------------------------------Don't forget Prince Rock Primary School is closed all day for staff training on Friday 29th June 2007.

Parent Support Advisor (PSA)
Some of you will have already met our new parent support advisor, Mrs Nicola Bloodworth. Nicola started working with us a couple of weeks ago and she is currently sorting out a new office space in the top corridor near the hall and also undergoing intense Local Authority training.
Nicola will be introducing herself to you soon, partly through a leaflet which will try to explain her new and very exciting role and partly by making herself available to meet you personally in the school playground at the start and the end of the day.

This years class reports

This year's school reports will be sent home on Friday 6th July. We
normally add an insert for year 2 and year 6 to explain how the children have performed in the national SAT tests. This year we will be doing the same for children in years 3, 4 and 5 who sit the optional government tests in Maths and English. A leaflet in with the reports will explain how the tests work and what the results mean but Mr. Wallace will also be holding a briefing meeting to explain things in more detail. This meeting will be held at 3.45pm on Thursday 5th July in Mr. Wallace's classroom. This is your chance to ask questions about these SAT tests.

Cricket, Hockey and Athletics

Our girls cricket team recently finished 6th in a Plymouth tournament and our mixed hockey team came 3rd in the finals of their event. Well done to the children that represented the school so well in both events. In this weeks athletics events we also gained a 5th and a 3rd place.

MTA and Parent governor vacancies

We are currently recruiting relief play workers / MTA's to work for us at lunchtimes. If you interested in the role, and available between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, please see Mrs Smith asap.

We still have one vacancy for a parent governor. If you have any interest in this vital role in the future development of the school please see Mr. Spry for more details.

No Smoking

The national 'no smoking' ban comes in to force in England on July 1st and it applies to our school grounds as well as our building. Please refrain from smoking in the playground when you drop off or collect your children.

Don't forget to leave the dogs at home too!!!!

Sports day
This years sports day will be held next Tuesday morning (3rd July) from 9.30am at Tot Hill field, weather permitting. The children will be in their 4 coloured 'big cat'teams again and we will be having a picnic afterwards. Whatever the weather the children will need a packed lunch. If you are entitled to a free school meal one will be provided
We look forward to seeing you there. T-shirts are still available.
