10 Sep 2007 - Newsletter

A busy and sunny start
to a new year

Although we are less than 2 weeks into our new term we are already incredibly busy. We have already elected our new school councillors, opened a new grassed garden area in the corner of the infant playground and picked and cooked loads of food from our Embankment Road allotment. We?ve also welcomed 3 new staff and 35 new children across the school.
On a sad note we?ve also said good bye to our local parish priest, Father Brian Ley, who is retiring after 37 years.
Inside this new look newsletter you will hopefully find lots of information on events happening over the next few weeks.
Our year 6?s are off on a trip to Eden, a nationally renowned Theatre company, ?Theatre Alibi? are visiting the whole school next week and our Year 5 and 6?s are off to Morwellham??. and it?s still only only week 2!
I hope you all enjoy the term, and long may the sun last!!

S. Spry - Headteacher

A very warm welcome to
our new children

We are very pleased to welcome 30 new children in to Miss Prothero?s reception class. We are also welcoming 5 new children in different classes around the school. We hope you enjoy your time at our school.
What?s in side this issue

Inside this newsletter you should find adverts for various East End activities and a copy of the plans for your child?s learning this term. (Apart from Year 3?s due to Mrs Frost?s current absence) There should also be a copy of the Theatre Alibi letter and consent form. Please return this with the money by Wednesday 19th at the latest.
Thank you

The allotment
Years 2, 5 and 6 have already been taking advantage of the sunny weather and visiting our allotment. Here?s a picture of some of our year 2 children with the vegetables they picked. Look out for the sweetcorn, the potatoes, the carrots and the chard!
Year 5 have also managed to fit in a bit of blackberry picking as well!

Lost property
On Monday 17th September the children will have the opportunity to look at the large collection of lost property we collected in school last year. From 3.15 pm until 4.00pm the lower school P.E. will also be open for parents to look around to see if you recognise any lost items. Anything unaccounted for after Monday will either be sold off in our second hand uniform shop, given away to the local charity shop or thrown away. Please come in on Monday and have a good look around. We have over 20 bags of clothes left over from last year!!!!!

Dental Screening
The Local Authority has informed the school that it will no longer be carrying out it?s annual dental screening in schools. If you require assistance with getting a dentist for your child please phone the Primary Care Trust Dental Service on 0845 155 8070

Local walk consent forms

If you haven?t returned your local walk consent form please do so as soon as possible. Without this we will not be able to take your child out of school to the allotment or Tothill fields for games for example. If you require a new form, please see Mrs Smith in the school office.

Phone numbers
Please tell us if you change either your land line number or your mobile number. It really is important to let Mrs Smith know if there are any changes to any of the contact details we currently hold on you and your children.

Athletics reports
On Tuesday 11th September our year 5 and 6 athletics team took part in an indoor tournament at Lipson Community College. The children competed in a range of running, jumping and throwing activities and finished second! As always with our children the team behaved superbly and were a real credit to the school.
