22 Oct 2007 - Come to the fair

Come to the fair
Do you want to go on a fire engine?
Fancy winning a meal out for 2 at Nando's?
Do you want to see our exciting new plans for the playground
adventure trail?
Or do you just want to browse the stalls and have a cup of tea?

On Friday afternoon (tomorrow) we are holding our first ever parent services fair in the downstairs hall. It promises to be a great event with a mixture of information stalls, fun children's games, competitions and plenty of things to buy.

It starts just after 3.00 and will go on until just after 4.00 so you can have a quick look before the children come out and another tour after you?ve collected them.

Everyone who comes in will get a free raffle ticket for a meal for 2 at Nando's.

See you there!

S. Spry - Headteacher
School closure

Prince Rock Primary School is closed for staff training on Friday 19th October and we will remain closed until after half term when we return to school on Monday 29th October.

Parents / Teacher meetings

Hopefully by now you have all signed up for the parent teacher meetings scheduled for next Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th October. If you haven't done so yet, the lists are outside your child's classroom. Monday's meetings are from 3.45pm - 5.00pm and Wednesday's are from 5.00pm - 7.00pm and they are your chance to see how your child is settling in with their new teacher. Mrs Frost's meetings will take place when she returns after half term.

Staffing News
If your child is in Reception or Year 4 you will already be aware of Miss Prothero and Mrs Watt's fantastic news. They are both expecting babies early next year. In fact Miss Prothero is expecting twins!
Adverts for maternity cover went in to the newspapers and on line earlier this week and we will let you know the outcome of our selection process as we soon as we make any decisions.
Although not quite as exciting, Mr. Spry is expecting his third child at the same time too. However as he won't be doing all the hard work at the birth or looking after the baby all day, he won't be going on maternity leave for 2 terms!

School council

Earlier this week 2 members of the school council and 2 school staff went to a local garden centre to buy the plants and the fencing for the dream wood garden area. Over the next week various classes will be planting them out before the half term break.

Chess Club

We still have some vacancies for our chess club on a Wednesday evening. See Mrs Smith if you want to join.

New Play Trail

Over the last few years we have made massive improvements to our playground but we still don?t have anywhere for the children to climb and swing and balance!!! but hopefully not for much longer!
The final piece of our grand playground plan is ready to slot in to place but we need your help to finish it. Over the last 2 days all the children at the school have been looking at the first draft of our new playground trail design and they are very, very excited about it. We have a massive full colour poster of the plans but if you want to see it you need to come to the fair this Friday and look out for the friends groups stall!!
The school has successfully managed to bid for funding and scrape together a significant sum of money from various sources to fund the project. However, if we want to get it installed this school year then we will need help with finding the final bit of money. The school council are going to start to talk to the children next week about how we can raise funds towards getting the equipment installed this year but we need you to help us too.
The friends group are reforming to help the school council to raise the last £2,500 we need to get it installed this school year. Please come and help us!

Home school books

Inside this newsletter you should find a second copy of the letter we sent you recently about the home / school books. Please disregard it if you have already responded, but if you haven't, please fill it in and send it back to us next week. The more parents that respond, the more likely we are to get the information we need to make the right decision for you and your children.

Phone numbers
Please tell us if you change either your land line number or your mobile number. It really is important to let Mrs Smith know if there any changes to any of the contact details we currently hold on you and your children.
