NewsLetter October 2002

YEAR ONE TEACHER

Following recent interviews, we have appointed Ms Prothero to cover Mrs MacAlpine's maternity leave.

Ms Prothero will start with us officially on 25th November, however she has already visited us in order to ensure a smooth transition.  You might be interested to know that we had 35 applications for the post; this is very encouraging at a time when there is a teacher shortage.

CONCERNS IN THE COMMINITY
From time to time I am contacted by parents and others in the area who are concerned about the behaviour of a small group of children in the evenings and at weekends.  The best advice I can give is for concerns to be reported to the appropriate authorities for the good of the whole community.  The people to contact regarding such matters might include:
  • Elected councillors - their contact details can be obtained by telephoning the central switchboard at Plymouth City Council
  • Residents groups - contactable via the area office in Cattedown Road
  • Police - either by calling CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111, or by leaving a message at Charles Cross police station for the Sutton Ward Team.
  • The number for non-emergency calls is 08705 777 444

EVERYBODY NEEDS GOOD NEIGHBOURS

Recently we had some minor vandalism in the school garden at weekends.  This is very unusual and disappointing given all the effort that we have made to improve the garden.  If you see anybody on the school grounds that you think should not be there, I would be grateful if you would contact the CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.

 ROAD SAFETY

Following an incident earlier this term when two pupils were injured trying to cross the road one evening, all pupils have taken part in talks from our School Policeman and a member of the Council's road safety team.  This time of year is especially dangerous for children because the clocks go back and often children are not so visible.

FIREWORK SAFETY

In the run-up to November 5th it may be a good idea to keep an even closer eye on your child to ensure that they are not harmed by stray fireworks.

HARVEST

In order to support our Harvest assembly, the children have been asked to bring in tins of food, all donations will be passed to residents in the sheltered housing at Heles Terrace.

HALF TERM
Please remember that we break up this Friday 25th October and we return on Monday 4th November.  Have a good break!
